IMTS Experience

Out of the wide array of technology and manufacturing expositions, the International Manufacturing Technology Show, or IMTS, has risen to the top as the biggest and best in North America, and one of the biggest in the world. Walking into the towering exhibit halls, it’s easy to see how this came to be and simply standing there can almost be a technological assault on your senses. Oriented around each exhibit hall are innumerable machines, booths, and demonstrations, divided by the functions of the technology shown, although in some cases it can be difficult to discern what those functions may be. The air is a cacophony of sounds produced by these locations, adding to the atmosphere of a crowd intrigued. You join the throng of attendees meandering through the expanses of polished stainless steel pieces, motors, and plastics, stopping at the booths that catch their interest. And with 1.3 million net square feet of exhibit floor for them to do so on, exploring the whole facility is difficult, if not impossible to do in a day, and it’s exciting to walk through this hub of activity. There’s so much to see that it’s easy to miss things, such as minute, intricately detailed 3D prints or a milled, solid aluminum eagle, because, despite its name, this is a demonstration of creativity as well and manufacturing technology. IMTS is a combination of machining, technology, and art and to be there is an experience to rival many others.
