On March 22nd, Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Jennifer McCormick, and Indiana State Senator, Ryan Mishler, visited Penn High School. Two of Team 135’s members, Italia Field and John Laatz, gave them a tour of many different aspects of the STEM academy including the robotics lab. To start the tour, they explained the Chairman’s Awards, 135 has won the past few years and the many other honorable awards the team has won. They introduced them the Architecture, Intro to Engineer Design, Manufacturing, Principles of Engineering, and Robotics classes.

The students extensively explained the FIRST programs including our highlight, Team 135. As soon as they visited the lab, Dr. McCormick and Senator Mishler, were astounded by the collection of robots and the technology we have accessed to thanks to our sponsors. They were also very surprised to learn that the team is entirely funded and run by students. They asked many questions about how we abstained our skills in which we responded “Thanks to our mentor and coaches.” Overall, they were very impressed with our facility and things we accomplished the past 21 years.
